Rachel?s wish has come true. Now, her mother is going overseas to see it with her own eyes.

Samantha Paul will leave later this month to travel to villages in Ethiopia where drinking water wells have been built in her daughter?s name.? Rachel Beckwith of Bothell earned worldwide attention after her death in a car crash one year ago.

For her 9th birthday, just before she died, Rachel started a fund drive to raise money to help pay for clean water in African villages.? Rachel raised more than $200 before she died. But after her death, news of her effort prompted donations from all over the world.

The fund has now raised $1.2 million.

?I?m going to be happy and excited to see the people and what they?ve received,? Samantha Paul said of her upcoming visit.? ?I?ll be sad that Rachel isn?t here to see it.? But I?m sure that more than anything I?ll feel blessed for what I do have.?

Paul will be accompanied by her pastor, Ryan Meeks of Bothell?s Eastlake Church. It was the church that spurred Rachel?s interest in Charity Water, an organization that funds clean drinking water for impoverished communities.

Donations can still be made in Rachel?s honor at www.drinks4drinks.com.
